Major upset in James Bond odds as bookies back 'power couple' to become 'the future of the franchise'

Bookmakers have issued surprise new odds for the next James Bond as speculation over who will replace Daniel Craig reaches fever pitch. 

Last week, Henry Cavill was revealed to be a new favourite, with his odds slashed to 3/1, helping to close the gap with long-time frontrunner Aaron Taylor-Johnson whose odds stood at 8/11. 

Now, Coral have slashed the odds of Fantastic Beasts star Callum Turner, following a rush of support over the weekend. 

'Callum Turner has been extremely popular in our James Bond betting over the weekend, forcing us to slash his odds to replace Daniel Craig,' said Coral's John Hill.

'With Turner being backed, and Dua Lipa odds-on to play the soundtrack for the next Bond movie, the power couple could be the future of the franchise.'

Dua, who announced her engagement to Callum over the summer, has been backed for years to be the next star to sing the theme tune, following in the footsteps of Billie Eilish and Adele.

The latest James Bond odds possess Henry Cavill as clear favourite to be named as Daniel Craig’s replacement, with plenty of speculation in the media suggesting that he is being lined up for the role.

Cavill has shortened into favouritism overnight with William Hill and the actor, established for his role as Superman in Man Of Steel, has had his odds cut from 3/1 into 2/1 favouritism in under 24 hours.

Cavill has ousted Theo James from the top of the next James Bond odds market, with the latter’s odds drifting from 15/8 to 5/2.

William Hill ambassador, Lee Phelps, said: “There’s been a big shift in the market for who’ll replace Daniel Craig as the next Bond, with Henry Cavill making waves in the betting and shortening into favouritism overnight.

“We’ve cut Cavill’s odds from 3/1 to 2/1 which sees him rise to the top of the betting to become the next 007. We’ve seen him in Bond-esque roles in recent years and the public seem to accept he’d be the ideal candidate to play the world’s most famous secret agent.

Newcomers contend with acting veterans in the search for the next James Bond. Joining the list of 007 candidates is Scott Rose-Marsh, a breakout fan favorite at online betting sites.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is still favored to become the next 007 (per Oddschecker), but a lesser-known actor just joined the betting slots. Scott Rose-Marsh is a relative newcomer, but his prospects are promising. As of Jul. 12, Rose-Marsh's odds are 11/8 at Betfair, better than Taylor-Johnson's 2 and Henry Cavill's 1/10. Rose-Marsh only has a handful of minor roles to his credit, most recently in 2022's Wolves of War and TV's The Outlaws. To date, no actor has been confirmed as an official Bond candidate.

The latest 'next James Bond odds' from Ladbrokes have seen Henry Cavill's chances of playing 007 improve dramatically.

The former Superman has been slashed from 10/1 to 3/1, making him the second-favourite to succeed Daniel Craig as 007. The bookies recently revealed that Cavill was punters’ clear favourite to be the next Bond in terms of bets placed.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is still the betting frontrunner, but having been odds-on at 8/11 he’s drifted to evens. Elsewhere, one-time favourite Theo James is now out at 7/1 from 5/1.

Cal Gildart of Ladbrokes said: “Just when it looked like it was running out of steam, the Henry Cavill-for-James Bond bandwagon has picked up again. Cavill seems perfect for the role, but would he make enough of a splash for new rightsholders Amazon?”

Only seven names are priced at 10/1 or shorter, with there having been 12 names with an assumed probability of more than 4% of becoming the next 007 as we prepare to enter September.
