Can you stop cannabutter and restart the next morning overnight
Butter problems
Hi Solar storm, tnx for all your effort in sharing your cannabutter work.
I recently, just now changed how I do things a little...always learning, a work in progress, like brewing or growing or...or...
I just took a bundle, (quarter trash sack), of dried trim, perhaps 2 ells? of crude cannabis shake, very little leaf but all grades were mixed of trimmings.
I usually only use fine bud trim ( sugar shake) but this is mixed good shake.
It's been strained gently in turkey bags, sealed against trich loss etc.
First straining through 12 in. strainer fry basket @ 1/2 " lined with 3/8 ?" diamond mesh, all leaf and stem roughadge discarded. I aim for at least a pound and a quarter decent dry shake to make my big batch cannabutter.
Then through a 1/16" screen in turkey bag, gently moved..shaken through.
so far I've about a half pound @ 1/16 th inch with lots of intact trichs.
I have a 1/32nd" screen but doubt I'll need it. I figure from much past work that with this batch of weed @ aprox. 1.25 lb, with losses my ratio will be about 1 lb fine shake to about 1/ gal. ghee, which is my favorite baking oil.

decarb before making canna butter?
Do you just heat the plant material and butter together to make your canna butter? If you control the temperature it should be the same. I like the water for two reasons, one it removes some chlorophyll, secondly it assures the temperature doesn't get too high, ie above boiling. I followed someone else's recipe, 4oz of trim and small buds, 3qts of water and two lbs of unsalted butter. Simmered on low in a crockpot for 10 hours, then the same setting but on a timer, half hour on, half hour off overnight, and back on to full time low simmering for a couple of hours in the next morning. Twenty hours total, nothing magical about the time, I would bet 10-16 hours would be enough. The I set up a frying oil splatter screen that usually goes over a frying pan, over a bowl. I put two layers of cheese cloth on the screen and poured the liquid into the bowl through the cheese cloth and screen. Gathering up the cloth with silicon mitts on and twisting it into a ball and squeezing as much butter out as possible could befumble said:
Thanks...i dont use a crockpot or water when making my butter...does tahat make a difference?

Decarbing Temperature and Time
- 220°F (104°C): 40–45 minutes (lower heat, slower process to preserve terpenes).
- 240°F (116°C): 30–40 minutes (standard, efficient method).
- Avoid going above 250°F (121°C), as cannabinoids may degrade, and terpenes may burn off.
Step-by-Step Decarbing Process
- Preheat the Oven:
- Set your oven to the desired temperature (220°F–240°F).
- Allow it to preheat thoroughly for consistent results.
- Prepare the Cannabis:
- Break the cannabis into small, evenly sized pieces (don’t grind too fine to avoid burning).
- Place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or foil.
- Bake:
- Spread the cannabis in a single layer on the sheet.
- Bake for 30–45 minutes, checking occasionally to ensure it doesn’t over-brown.
4.Pop it in a crockpot. I mix coconut oil in also but its optional.
strain. use as desired
