Spy Shots—2018 Ford Expedition Sports F-150 Nose
Spotted with an F-150 nose, the next-generation ’18 Ford Expedition is expected to use much of the aluminum-intensive structure that debuted on Ford's full-size truck for 2015. It will allow the full-size SUV to do battle with GM's line of SUVs and meet more stringent fuel-economy standards and compete with a host of modern technologies introduced on Ford's volume truck.
It's widely expected the Expedition will take on the look of the F-150, largely a refinement on the outgoing model, and keep the same rough external and internal dimensions. The independent rear suspension will continue to give Ford's fullsize SUV an edge over Chevy and GMC rivals.
Inside, the Expedition should also look like its family, incorporating the latest technology features and Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment. Self-parking assists and advanced safety tech should also be part of the package—likely an important piece for the Lincoln Navigator sibling.
The 3.5L Ecoboost V6 from the current facelifted Expedition, introduced for 2015, should probably continue in the ’18 model. However, other Ecoboost options, such as the 2.7, could also be offered.

2018 Ford Expedition Photographed Wearing A Pop-Up Tent: Spy Shots
New spy shots of what can really only be the next Ford Expedition full-size SUV have emerged – a vehicle anticipated to launch for 2018 after an unveiling at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. Check in with Autoblog for the full gallery of photos.
The current, third-generation Ford Expedition has grown quite long in the tooth indeed, having retained essentially the same design since the 2007 model year. For 2015, the SUV received its mid-cycle refresh, but it’s still overdue for a complete redesign.
What’s most notable about the spied 2018 Ford Expedition test mule is how immediately it recalls the Lincoln Navigator concept shown earlier this year in New York. Autoblog‘s Brandon Turkus made very much the same observation, pointing to the straight belt line, raked windshield, and long rear windows as evidence. We would also add to that the gently-sloping roof line.
Also worth noting is the rear glass on this Ford Expedition test mule, which is raked more than the rear camouflage would have you believe. Click through the gallery and you’ll see what we mean.

Next-Gen Ford Expedition Spied For The First Time Looking Boxy And Dirty
The current Ford Expedition debuted way back in 2017 as a 2018 model-year machine. As such, the fourth-gen SUV is approaching retirement age and we believe these photos show its replacement. Caught on camera for the first time, this might be the 2025 Ford Expedition.
At a glance, we see the next Expedition will be as large as ever. Design details are concealed beneath camouflage wrap, with heavier coverings front and rear to hide what are certainly the more notable changes. We can see familiar body lines along the side, and the structure of the C-pillar with a modest forward slope appears the same. It's tough to judge any changes in wheelbase or overall size, but the SUV's face looks a bit taller and flatter compared to the current model. It's certainly possible the heavier camo is throwing us off on that, but such a plan change would mirror trends of other automakers debuting bulked-up SUVs.
Looking very closely at the front, we can definitely see redesigned headlights. It's unclear if the C-shaped LED outline will continue – there isn't quite enough exposure around the housing to tell but we can watch an
Ford is retooling its Louisville, Kentucky truck plant for the production of the new aluminum 2017 Ford Super Duty. However, it is the same plant that builds the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator. What is the company to do if it wants to continue the production of its large SUVs? How about doing a complete redesign, and employing aluminum body construction for the next Expedition and Navigator?
It appears that Ford is doing just that. Last month, the Lincoln Navigator concept made its debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show. It makes logical sense that the next generation of the Expedition is not far behind.
This prototype appears to borrow most from the current aluminum F-150. All of the body panels and components forward of the c-pillar are F-150. The rear section is new with tinted glass and tail-lights from the current Expedition.
If this is the case, then the next Expedition will be a lighter vehicle with a selection of EcoBoost powertrains. The 10-speed automatic transmission may also appears in this large family hauler.
Lincoln said that the next Navigator will have an EcoBoost engine with an output of over 400 horsepower. The Expedition will not be far behind.
SPIED: New Ford Expedition on its Way for 2018
The Ford Expedition was released in its current form in 2006 as a 2007 model, so to say it's a bit outdated is an understatement. In spite of an extensive mechanical (and light cosmetic) refresh for 2015, the Expedition's aging bones are evident when comparing it to its fullsize competitors, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and the Cadillac Escalade. Those vehicles are available with a wide variety of safety and electronics features that just aren't compatible with the Expedition's older electronic architecture, and the Blue Oval's interior, while pleasant enough, is a half step behind that of even its Bow Tie rival.
That is going to change, by the looks of these spy shots of an upcoming 2018 Expedition (or Bronco?) SUV, likely to be made extensively from aluminum and high-strength steel.
While the first-generation Expedition closely aped the styling of the F-150 upon which it was based, the second- and third-generation family haulers sported a unique face. The fourth-gen Expo looks like it'll return to form, adopting the high-tech look of the all-new F-150. Slim, vis
