R.A. Salvatore To Continue Drizzt Do'Urden's Legacy With A New Spinoff Book Series

Legendary fantasy author R. A. Salvatore is back with a brand-new series that will tell the story of the next generation after Drizzt Do'Urden. Salvatore has announced his upcoming book, The Finest Edge of Twilight, the first in a new planned series that will see a new hero seize up Drizzt's legacy. Courtesy of Penguin Random House, it hits bookshelves on October 7, 2025.

The new series centers on Breezy Do'Urden, the daughter of Drizzt Do'Urden and Catti-brie, so those who love Dungeons & Dragons' iconic Forgotten Realms drow ranger need not worry that the next series will get too far away from him. Build no mistake, though, Breezy is forging her own identity here, as the press release says:

"For the past decade, Breezy has dedicated herself to the examine of combat, magic, and more recently, to the elusive Way of Shadow, forging herself into something more than an heir: a weapon with purpose. But even after years of endeavor, her parents struggle to observe Breezy as more than just their little girl. Determined to prove them wrong, Breezy takes on the most intense test she can

"Susan J. Morris checks all the boxes in the wonderful Strange Beasts. Engaging characters, true suspense, well-played horror, great storyline, but where she really shines above is in her ability to paint such a vivid picture that the reader is right there with those engaging characters, and in that time frame. With merely a brief and succinct description, Morris can put you right there in England around the turn of the 20th century, with enough familiarity to the sister horror novels written in and about that same time frame. You recognize the names, you see the terrain unfold before you, you know enough of the horrors, and so you are carried along this adventure as if you too have much to lose. Now that's a thriller!"

R.A. Salvatore reveals his new D&D novel — and why he wanted to follow Drizzt’s daughter Breezy

R.A. Salvatore’s legacy as an author might be permanently tied to the drow warrior Drizzt Do'Urden, but three decades after introducing the Dungeons & Dragons character, he clearly sees no limit to what’s possible in the Forgotten Realms — or who he can follow to discover it.

In the wake of Salvatore’s The Way of the Drow trilogy, which concluded with 2023’s Lolth’s Warrior, the writer is back to launch a new series. Polygon can exclusively reveal the title, synopsis, and cover of Salvatore’s next novel, The Finest Edge of Twilight, which will kick off a new saga, focusing on Drizzt and Catti-brie’s daughter, Briennelle Zaharina.

Why did Salvatore want to shift the spotlight to “Breezy”?

"With every book I write, I explore what formed the characters, particularly the protagonist,” Salvatore told Polygon via email. “Who are they and why are they? The why they are is the most important revelation to me as I explore their journeys. Where did these characters come from? What inciting events shaped their operating system, their view of the world?
