The Creighton University Bluejays of Omaha, Nebraska launched their men’s basketball program in 1911. The team remained independent until 1922, when the Bluejays joined the North Central Conference and immediately won the conference title in their first season under head coach Arthur A. Schabinger. The Bluejays moved to the Missouri Valley Conference for the 1935-36 season and once again won the conference title in their first year. Schabinger’s successor, Eddie Hickey, led the team to their first NCAA tournament during the 1940-41 season. They would appear in the tournament again in 1962 and 1964 under coach Red McManus, finishing in the Sweet Sixteen stage, followed by the same result in 1974
Although Creighton began as an independent program, and have spent the majority of their existence in the Missouri Valley Conference, the team has been a member of the Big East since the 2013-14 season.
