It’s lightweight, affordable, and easy to tote on trips. The Cosco Scenera Next is one of the most popular travel auto seats out there, but is it safe and worth using?

Now that my son has aged out of his infant automobile seat, this is the one we travel with after reading numerous reviews stating that this is THE travel car seat.

Do I love it? Yes and no. Here’s what to know before you buy it:

When the Cosco Scenera NEXT convertible car seat was released in 2015, we were eager to meet this low priced, lightweight convertible car seat.  Since that first meeting, the Scenera NEXT has become a mainstay of the car seat world and a popular budget-friendly travel car seat.

Let’s talk about two popular car seats that claim to make travel easier, especially if you’re navigating airports with a toddler on one hip and three bags on the other. The WayB Pico and Cosco Scenera Next are both lightweight, compact, and fit-for-travel seats, but each has its quirks. I’ve used both—on planes, in taxis, and even on a road trip or two—so let’s break down the real pros and cons of each.

Ease of Use: Setup, Breakdown, and Fast Installs

If ease of use is at the top of your list, the WayB Pico is hard to beat. This thing opens and folds up in about three seconds flat. It’s like origami for car seats, and I can easily get it set up in a taxi while my toddler is distracted by… anything nearby that’s not the car seat.
