With Blue Bloods ending in December, Tom Selleck is open to bringing Jesse Stone back to the small screen. Selleck starred in nine films featuring the character. The first eight films aired on CBS from 2005 until 2012, with the ninth film airing on Hallmark Channel in 2015. A 10th movie was being considered back in 2017 but hasn’t been made yet.
Based on Robert B. Parker’s novels, the movies follow Stone (Selleck), a retired police detective from the Paradise Police Department in Massachusetts. The movies’ cast have also included Kohl Sudduth, Kathy Baker, Viola Davis, Vito Rezza, Stephen McHattie, William Devane, Saul Rubinek, and William Sadler.
Selleck said the following when asked about what he might do next by TV Insider:
“It looks like now I might have to write [a script for another movie.]. It wouldn’t be a final one because everybody loves it. Jesse is a great character, and it would be fascinating to find out where he is quite a few years later. But I need to regroup; I don’t know what’s next, but assuming the phone doesn’t stop ringing, I’m going to keep working.”

Whenever Blue Bloods Ends, Tom Selleck Knows The Character He Wants To Return To Next
I’m still having trouble typing the words “when Blue Bloods ends,” but the sad fact is that it’s going to come down the pipeline sooner than I’d like. CBS confirmed there’s no chance Blue Bloods will receive uncanceled in the same conduct that S.W.A.T. was ultimately brought back. While Tom Selleck has been busy trying to rescue the show and there’s another round of episodes on the way, it does seem he’s looking toward the future, and what character he might revisit when the Reagan family drama ends.
In fact, during a recent interview Selleck did in sustain of his book, he was asked about what’s next. He’s still bullish about the possibility of the show getting uncanceled (which he also just mentioned in an interview where he expressed he hopes “CBS will come to their senses”). However, if it doesn’t Selleck would like to do another Jesse Stone movie. That’s right, mystery fans.
If Blue Bloods doesn’t [get uncanceled], there is room for a Jesse Stone because I’ve wri
Tom Selleck Is Wrong About The Next Jesse Stone: Why The 10th Movie Must End The Franchise
Tom Selleck has big plans for Jesse Stone's future - but the tenth movie should wrap up the series. With Blue Bloods ending there is talk of Jesse Stone returning, with the most recent entry being 2015's Lost in Paradise. Selleck has fronted nine Jesse Stone movies thus far, and while he had planned to juggle the franchise with his Blue Bloods commitments, it didn't work out that way. With his schedule clearing up, Selleck has confirmed his interest in a Jesse return, also telling TV Insider that part ten "... wouldn’t be a final one because everybody loves it."
One issue with the next entry is that it's been a decade since Lost in Paradise. The passage of time means the next Jesse Stone can't just pick up from ongoing plot threads like previous sequels did, so the time gap will need to be addressed. It may also need to be a soft reboot if it stands any chance of appealing to new viewers. Still, the thought of Selleck donning the PPD cap again is an exciting one, though the star should probably scale back on his ambitions for the future of Jesse Stone.

The Jesse Stonefranchise consists of nine feature films, and viewers who are new to the series might be wondering what the best way to watch the Jesse Stone movies in order. While some detective series installments work as one-off or standalone viewing experiences, successfully watching the adaptations of Robert B. Parker's novels benefits from a more intentional approach. With eight films from CBS (2005–12) and another movie from the Hallmark Channel (2015), the Jesse Stone series boasts a lot of characters and lore.
Magnum P.I. original series star Tom Selleck helms all nine films in the franchise. In Stone Cold, the first Jesse Stone movie, Selleck's titular character is a former Los Angeles homicide detective who relocates to small-town Massachusetts after being fired from the force for his habitual alcohol use. Full of genre tropes, the made-for-TV crime dramas offer up familiar plot beats and satisfying conclusions, both of which speak to its success as a long-running, dependable franchise.
