Corbin Burnes Next-Team MLB Odds: Mets & Red Sox Slightly Favored
Beyond Juan Soto, the second-best MLB free agent hails from the mound. At 30 years old, right-hander Corbin Burnes has many insiders projecting a deal of at least $200 million this offseason. Burnes earned an All-Star bid in each of the last four seasons, winning the National League Cy Young award in 2021. Let’s assess the odds for Corbin Burnes’ next team.
Corbin Burnes Next-Team Odds
DraftKings Sportsbook is offering Corbin Burnes next-team odds in certain states. Whenever Burnes opts to sign, his next team’s World Series odds could shorten substantially.
Will Mets Spend Big?
FanGraphs states Burnes has produced a 21.7 fWAR during the last five years. Only Phillies ace Zack Wheeler (24.7) has been a more valuable starter over this stretch.
Granted, his strikeout rate has decreased significantly since his award-winning run. In 2024, Burnes generated a 17% strikeout-to-walk ratio, his lowest since his rookie season. Even so, Burnes is one of the most consistent starters in baseball.

Corbin Burnes is a Diamondback. What’s Next?
Wow.
The Diamondbacks came swooping in at the 11th hour (literally) and got the prized arm on the 2024/5 free agent market. There were no reports that Arizona was even in the hunt for Burnes’ services, and yet, the team came to terms with him on the largest deal in team history. I don’t even think Mike Hazen ever once mentioned starting pitching as part of his offseason To-Dos, outside of trading away from our perceived wealth there. Well done, Mr. Kendrick and Mr. Hazen.
I wanted to get the Thank Yous and Well Dones out of the way early because I didn’t want to sound like a brat (though I’m probably using an outdated definition of that word) when I ask: “What’s next?”
As mentioned at the top, the Diamondbacks looked to have a surplus of starting pitchers before the Burnes deal was made. Now? There must be another deal on the way to cull the herd. Right?
Jordan Montgomery
First, let’s start with the obvious: Jordan Montgomery. Gumby seems the most likely to have his days in the desert numbered. Between the owner of the team openly criticizing himself over his signing a
MLB free agency odds: Favorites to land top free agents Soto, Burnes, and more
The 2024 MLB season is less than a month behind us, yet teams are already plotting, wondering how they can convince the biggest free agents to join their teams for the foreseeable future.
We live in a different age of free agency now though. Players know their worth and are willing to wait for appropriate contracts more than ever before. Just last year, we saw numerous big stars wait through spring training before signing with their teams. While fans hope not to experience such torment again this year, it's very likely we experience something similar for at least a few players in spring 2025.

This past season, he registered the third-lowest batting average of his career (.260). He tallied 26 house runs and 75 RBIs in 145 games, and won his first Golden Glove. The Astros offered Bregman a one-year, $21.05 million qualifying offer on Monday.
Blake Snell next team Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes will be the most-coveted pitcher in MLB free-agency market this offseason. Burnes came to the Baltimore Orioles from Milwaukee for past season in a trade. He went 15-9 for the O’s while posting a 2.92 ERA in 32 games and striking out 181 batters. As important for potential suitors is that Burnes logged 194.1 innings in 2024 Baltimore reached the postseason as an AL Wild Card before getting brushed aside 2-0 by the Royals. Burns took the loss in Game 1 despite going 8 innings while giving up just 1 run.
