League
Leagues in Path of Exile represent the game worlds or domains that characters exist within. A single character can only belong to one league at any time, and can't interact with characters outside that league. Leagues are split in 2 different categories: permanent and temporary leagues. Each is narrowed down further with optional game modes that represent different playstyles by introducing key conditions and restrictions to gameplay.
Permanent leagues
Standard league
Standard leagues are permanent, default leagues that only include mechanics that are core to the game, have no additional modifiers, and exclude any content from the current challenge league. Standard leagues include: Standard (Softcore/Trade), Standard Hardcore, Standard Solo-Self Found, and Standard Hardcore Solo-Self Found and their ruthless versions.

Well, GGGames have been around 10+ years. So they’ve had alot of practice conjuring up cool ideas and mechanics. I played Path 01 back when it was in the alpha stage and well … there wasn’t alot there either. I still remember when they added mechanics like the guarded chests. That was a great, and still is, addition.
I watched GGG’s broadcast today. Loved how they’ve expanded the skill tree, the sprint added to the dodge mechanics, and now the ability to socket the same support gem more than once.
I’m looking forward to tomorrow so bad. I can’t wait to start anew with LE’s new season. Along with PoE 2’s 29th August release.

Eh, extremely weak bait. They added sprinting, but you literally - and I mean literally - trip and get killed if an enemy hits you. Why? Because 60% of the playerbase was playing
The next POE1 league should be starting next month, right?
4 months is what Jonathon Rogers said. Mercenaries started in June. So mid October for the next one right?
See that's the game I actually love and I would hate to observe another one get delayed for a long time because of POE2, which is a game I don't really love.

If they manage to stick to the schedule you'd be correct with the starting rendezvous being somewhere in mid or late October.
Here's the issue though. We've had a bunch of delays for PoE 1 already and Mercenary league stopped receiving updates earlier than leagues usually would. PoE 1 clearly isn't a priority.
The reasonable thing for players to do is to simply pair their current tone. Expect a delay or some other way of them messing up. It's not like we can arrange around their schedule anymore anyway.
Propably november/december, if I had to guess.
A huge event soon would be nice.
October 13th would be 4months since free of 3.26. So unless poe2 is again impacting releases of poe1, mid october is expected
Challenge Leagues
Path of Exile launches new temporary challenge leagues several times a year. These temporary leagues always have some twist or new gameplay mechanic that changes how you play, and a fresh economy. Everyone starts with nothing in their stash or on their character, other than a few flasks and scrolls. These leagues usually last about three months.
Challenge leagues also come with a set of special challenges (hence the name!). If you complete enough, you can earn exclusive microtransactions and Hideout decorations that are only available from that league. When a challenge league ends, all of the items, characters, Atlas progress, and virtually anything else you can think of, transfer to their parent leagues, the permanent Standard and Hardcore leagues. Once everything has transferred across to Standard or Hardcore, you can continue playing those characters where you left off. The start date of a new challenge league is usually announced several weeks in advance, and the first day of a new league is always very exciting, and bustling with players. The great majority of Path of Exile players play in these temporary challenge leagues. If you've never had a chance
