Gordon Ramsay's 'Next Level Chef' Was Filmed on a Very Unusual Television Set
If you're like us and got really into cooking shows, then you've likely binged most, if not all, of Gordon Ramsay's competitive television shows. From various iterations of Hell's Kitchen to MasterChef, Gordon Ramsay's Road Trip, and more, we've definitely spoiled by his team.
Now, in 2023, Gordon has blessed his loyal fanbase and cooking enthusiasts nationwide with a Season 2 of his Fox series, Next Level Chef.

The series follows Gordon and fellow chefs, Nyesha Arrington and Richard Blais, as they serve as mentors to 18 ambitious chefs, who range from social media stars to professional cooks.
After each mentor selects their team of six, the following weeks consist of each group cooking in one of three kitchens stacked on top of each other. Wait, what?! This is such an intricate set design, and we don't know about you, but we're eager to learn where Next Level Chef was filmed.

The show, already very popular in the English-speaking planet, is a high-level cooking match that attracts thousands of spectators behind their screens every year! And this year, the program will be shot at Ashford Studios in County Wicklow. A unique opportunity to raise Ireland’s international profile!

The challenge: delivering connectivity across a sprawling site
BiggerStage faced considerable challenges when filming seasons three and four of Next Level Chef at the National Media Centre (Ashford Studios – Phase 2) in Wicklow, Ireland. The production site encompassed a vast 2km² area containing not only the studio itself, but also technical and administrative cabins, talent and contestant areas, the culinary team’s space, and more. The site presented one significant hurdle in particular: there was no pre-existing connectivity infrastructure to support the demands of a modern television production.

Standing 14m tall and 20m wide, it completely dominated London’s LH2 Studio. The huge primary structure alone weighed 80 tonnes, filling 5 flatbed trailers. Despite this, the framework was assembled in under two weeks utilizing an arsenal of custom-made dollies and hardware by a team of just 20 technicians.
All three kitchens were fully functional, equipped to an industrial specification with gas, water, electricity, extraction, and fire suppression, all of which had to run through hundreds of metres of ducting that laced the structure. Each floor had a very distinct design aesthetic requiring very different materials, finishes and build techniques. Access between the 4 floors was achieved via 2 staircases, a personnel lift and the platform, as well as a scenery hoist platform employed during the installation and derig.
In addition to the main set, the production required the large mentor’s area, the green room set and the finale set. The entire production required 32 trailers to transport and completely filled 8000 square metres of storage.
